If you’re feeling sad and anxious today, I can guarantee you’re not alone. I’m feeling sad and anxious too. Devastatingly so. I’ll keep today’s catchup short and try and cheer you up with a book I hope will make you happy.
⛅︎ A new Ann Patchett book came out yesterday.
Well, it technically isn’t new— the book is Bel Canto which was first published in 2001. But this one, Bel Canto: The Annotated Edition, is a new edition with annotations by Ann Patchett herself. It has handwritten notes on what she found good, bad and things she would change or take out if she were writing it today. She says:
If you’re a writer and you want to see how someone writes a novel, this is about how I wrote this novel.
Considering she is one of my favourite authors, I have already put the book on my Christmas Wishlist. My bet is that I’ll end up buying it myself before that.
On Friday and Saturday, a time when I still had on my rose coloured glasses, I watched
⛅︎ Season 2 of The Diplomat
Possibly my favourite aspect of the show this season, was the dynamic of Kate and Hal’s marriage. What an excellent portrayal of a love/hate marriage— and their chemistry is amazing too. I’ll admit, the last scene was a little cheesy, but it’s done the job of keeping me at the edge of my seat until next season comes along.
Keep your eyes out, I’ve heard that
will be posting her review later this week. And to close off today’s catchup, I’ll leave you with a film to give you hope and open your heart. I watched it when it premiered at TIFF and even got a little emotional when Lupita Nyongo came up on stage.
⛅︎ The Wild Robot, directed by Chris Sanders
and starring Lupita Nyongo, Pedro Pascal and Kit Connor. It’s based on the book by Peter Brown and tells the story of a robot called Roz who finds herself shipwrecked on an island and the mother of an orphaned goose.
With that, I’ll say, practice lots of self care and look into the eyes of someone you love.
Until next time, stay strong,
XO Ingrid
PS. Excuse my distracted mind. I almost forgot a quote for you.
When you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong and you’ll finally see the truth—that a hero lies in you
-Mariah Carey.
Adore this, Ingrid 🫶🏻
