Is the first weekend in February too late to post a January love list?
I’ll also use this as a chance to say thank you to my new subscribers! I never take anyone’s attention for granted.
Let me know if you’ve read/watched/cooked/eaten any of the below and loved them as much as I did. Or what you have read/watched/cooked/eaten and would recommend.
Fiction
My favourite this month was without a doubt: The Eyes And The Impossible by Dave Eggers. I’m going to write an article on it soon, so I won’t say too much here, but— you must read it! No matter how old you are! It is brilliant!
Non-Fiction
Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. My son calls it the banana book even though it has nothing to do with bananas and everything to do with how we look at time. And no, it isn’t one of those how to fit as much as you possibly can into 24 hours books. It’s quite the opposite. Here is just one of the many sentences I highlighted:
“Because children grow up, we think a child’s purpose is to grow up,” Herzen says. “But a child’s purpose is to be a child. Nature doesn’t disdain what only lives for a day. It pours the whole of itself into each moment… Life’s bounty is in its flow. Later is too late.”
Cooking
Saka Saka Adventures in African Cooking, South of the Sahara by Anto Cocagne & Aline Princet. Definitely try the Chakalaka spicy vegetables and beans. And if you’re not into cooking the photography and layout is swoon-worthy enough.
Film
If you haven’t watched Past Lives please free up your evening, you won’t regret it. Also, I rewatched the Before trilogy this month, and I simply CANNOT pick my favourite. They are all so good.
Documentary
The Deepest Breath I’m fascinated by extreme sports; give me a good extreme sport documentary and I’m yours forever. But even if you aren’t, this is still an amazing watch.
That’s all for this last month’s recommendations.
Thanks for reading,
XO Ingrid
P.S In case you want to read my favourites to come for every month of the year, or any of my other musings, please subscribe.
Not being a reader, but an avid listener to podcasts and viewing videos. The Deepest Breath, I can relate this to my morning runs. When I near the end of a run, and I am challenged with an uphill run. The Deepest Breath comes into play. If one can manage their deepest run, then, I surely can run up, gain speed and push further!
My favourite movie I watched in January is Mulholland Drive and Full Metal Jacket.
