This is truly inspiring to read. I hate the saying “fighting cancer” too. It’s so distancing and judging of such a primary life experience. I wish you had taken more pictures too, but the ones you shared are so beautiful and full of life. Happy birthday to you and to Life.
You are such as inspiration! I remember the time I celebrated the special anniversary with my Nanny vividly. It was indeed special. You look beautiful either way and thanks for reminding me that aging is beautiful!
Congratulations on your cancer anniversary, Ingrid! You’ve overcome a ginormous hurdle and I wish you a long life filled with many beautiful moments with your family.
"Coasting through life = zero growth". Amazing perspective and important to remember when going through hard things. I loved your introspection at your journey!
Ingrid, your lessons are so powerful. Your journey is a testament to resilience and finding beauty in life’s toughest moments. Thank you for reminding us that every day and every age is a gift. Wishing you many more celebrations and milestones!
Ingrid, I appreciate you sharing some of your experiences with cancer. One of my close friends received a breast cancer diagnosis a few years ago (in remission now), but what you said could not be more accurate--no one is above cancer. It is really important not to assume anything about one's experience.
hi Ingrid! Bravo to you! I am almost at 20 years now- same journey- breast cancer, chemo, radiation, the works, and I also hate it when people talk about fighting bravely etc. I wish I could post my bald photo to share:) decided to wait till my real 20th anniversary in 2025. I don't mention this part of my life in my memoir, Paris Blue, as it never defined me, but I did organize several full orchestral concerts to raise funds for underserved women with the disease. For anyone interested you can find it on YouTube under "Hope and Harmony". (Julie Scolnik)
Thanks so much, Julie. I will definitely take a look at the concerts. It’s an amazing cause. Sometimes you don’t realized it until you have to deal with it, and are then so grateful for every bit of research and support. Because mine was an aggressive cancer, I had to have extra chemo treatment which took a whole year. Our health care system here in Ontario had only recently started covering that treatment. If I would have had to pay for it myself we would be in debt for the rest of our lives.
Oh my love! My goodness! You are so beautiful in every way (I’m copying Beth but it’s true!). Happy ten year anniversary, I would make you a cake if I could. I made my almond Santiago with dessictes coconut the other day instead of lemon and cinnamon and it’s delicious. And I’m eating it all because my husband doesn’t like coconut… I want to send you a present ❤️❤️
You are such a beautiful person in every way. Keep shining on and being brave - putting pieces of yourself out there because a) I love reading about it and b) you are helping others and yourself through your introspection! Happy ten year anniversary and oh my that pumpkin concoction looks delightful. Indulge and celebrate life! Xoxo

It is a privilege to grow old - so much wisdom in that Ingrid. Thank you for writing this. I hope you get to see your boys do amazing things.
