It’s so good. I’d seen it everywhere but never really felt drawn to it. Then I saw a copy at the library and just randomly thought, why not give it a try. I’m so glad I did.
Want to mention that I’m so glad that she questions her decision to marry the American. In the film, the Irish guy seems like a much better fit for her!!! I can’t wait to listen to the audiobook or read it
When I started reading this I thought this sounds like the same story and name of the protagonist in “Brooklyn”! I included this film in one of my top period romance films. Loved it.
That’s so many books in book club!
Oh I have the book by Zevin from the library, but have yet to start reading! I'll be waiting for your thoughts!

Now that's the motivation I need to open the cover tonight :)
I loved LONG ISLAND (I love pretty much all Colm Toibin), and admire the way he expanded the POV characters this time around.
Yes, he did that brilliantly! I felt all of them so deeply.
You’re like the 1000th person to give a glowing review of this book. This is definitely a sign for me to add it to my list
Let me know when you read it so we can gush over his writing!

I’m kind of worried that if I read or watch Brooklyn now, I’ll be tainted by the American, knowing how he turns out in the second book.
This sounds so interesting! I’ll add it to my list. Thank you for this amazing review!
Thanks so much, Jenn!
You’re welcome!

I have to watch it now! I’m such a huge Saoirse Ronan, I’m sure she does an amazing job too.
Do you have the list here on Substack? I’d love to see it!
My Top Period Romance movies is yet to be published but I have the list. Co-writing it with another Substack writer and it’s forthcoming!
I can’t wait to read!! I’ll have my eyes out for it!
