I talked to Beth about how she became the ultimate go-to voice, her secret to juggling multiple genres, and how she tackles being a 'neuro-spicy' writer
Regarding writing like a mosaic: this is a great way to put it, and is exactly how mine come together.
Once in a while an idea pops into my head fully formed, but usually it’s bits and pieces that I move around until something resembling a post starts coming into view.
This is kind of how my brain works, but I usually wait until I have it all together in my brain before I write it down. But I’m going to/have kind of started writing it down in bits.
The answer to the Introvert or Extrovert question describes me to a T. The only difference is that my stupid teenage self couldn't resist smoking and now I've been trying to get rid of the habbit for years. I'm still convinced the only reason I started smoking in the first place is because I just like to talk instead of sweating to loud music inside clubs.
Another brilliant interview, Ingrid! Beth, I’m always in awe of your knowledge on film and TV series, and your aptitude to talk about them in such depth and with such intelligence. When I’m asked I usually say, well, uh, I liked it, the dialogues were good, and loved the clothes😂 You should have your own TV show ❤️🙏🌼🌻
Yay another Beth fan! Thanks so much for reading, Chris!
Beth! I knew I recognized your name... I read your PopMatters stuff back in the day!

What??!! That is a crazy coincidence. Do you remember Cynthia Fuchs’ stuff? She was my editor
Maybe very distantly. I consumed a lot of pop culture criticism back then.

Thx for sharing this Kevin. It’s so fascinating to think about these details!

I love your Substack, Beth, and it was cool to learn more about you! Thanks for a great interview, Ingrid.
Thx Chris. Mutual admiration society

I’m an introvert too, but I actually do love talking to people after I overcome that initial awkwardness.
Yes me too! I prefer smaller groups and it still mostly will drain my energy but I'm miserable if I don't get social time during the week.
Wonderful interview. I didn’t know you wrote a novel too!! Congrats!🎊🎈
Great to hear more about Beth's background! She's a kindred spirit with her love and writing about television and film.
Thx Dan! Right back at ya.
Thanks for reading, Dan. Yes Beth has such a knack for writing about it too.

Thank you, Francesca. As you know from experience (https://open.substack.com/pub/ingridharingmendes/p/the-writers-life-12-questions-with?r=eeh87&utm_medium=ios), Ingrid makes it easy. I’d love to do a podcast show. I find them so fun when I do them. Thx for the ❤️ and support!
I’m sure you’d be great as a podcaster. Something to consider, for sure. So many things we want to do!
Thank you, Francesca and yes! to the TV show.
